I got one of those kits from Radio Shack when I was ten or eleven. It was one of those 300-in-one deals where you plug in all the parts and pray it works when you flip the switch. Though mine rarely did, I was intrigued by electronics. I made it my goal from that day forward to take everything in the house that was electronic apart and see how it worked. While I never understood what was going on, it was fun, so I started collecting little motors and other odds and ends and put them in a box.
Well, it has been a while since those days, but after reading a few more and getting a shed as a place to experiment, I am glad to say that I still love electronics and just playing around taking stuff apart. I am at the point where I try to invent stuff myself, and more recently, creating robots from scratch. When most people think of robots, it is R2-D2 or that one from the movie Short Circuit, or some complex mess of wires and metal. Well, hobby robotics, which is actually quite popular, consists of making little rovers that scoot across the living room carpet avoiding walls and following light sources and the such. That is where my interest lies.
Here are some pages about the things I have built, be it electronic or mechanical or robotic.
